Work in progress
Have you ever heard someone say "I don't want to be a Christian,
they have all those silly rules they have to follow" or something similar?
I certainly have. I heard things like that from both Christians and
non-believers. This is something I
thought about for a while. I know that God has good intentions towards me. As
Ken Davis put it ~"He doesn't sit up there looking down on us. 'There's Ken, he
is having fun. NO." *Stomping motion*'
God doesn't want to stomp on our fun, or keep us bound by hundreds
of rules, rather Jesus told us: "The thief
comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they
might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." - John 10:10
Okay, so his goal isn't to ruin our lives, but to give us abundant
lives. "Wait! what about all those crazy rules Christians are supposed to
follow?"
Okay, so there are some rules, but don't let those scare you away.
Have you ever been on an airplane, or looked up in the sky and seen the
trail of exhaust left by an airplane as it soars across the sky? The freedom you
have of being able to go any direction, climb, or descend while flying an
airplane; it is truly an amazing experience.
Did you know that airplanes have rules?
There are a lot of rules related to flying an airplane. These rules
don't restrict the freedom, they enable you to have the freedom. For example,
before an airplane can even take off, you need to follow rules that regulate the
weight distribution of the fuel, passengers, and cargo. If you don't follow the
rules for this, the plane might not even get off the ground, and if you do it
could be extremely dangerous to fly be and your plane could crash. But if you
follow these rules, you can get your plane off the runway and into the
sky-freedom.
These rules that Christians are supposed to follow are the same.
God knows how this stuff works, and the dangers that exist in life, and created
these rules so that we can have an abundant life, a life of freedom not
restriction.
